Part numbers matter more than family names
Networking hardware often has multiple configurations under one family name. A specific chassis, uplink module and power-supply combination may differ from the base family. Use the exact manufacturer part number whenever possible rather than a generic “48-port switch.”
Modules and optics are worth listing separately if loose or present in meaningful quantities.
Condition and support information
New in box is only one possible condition. Pulled-working, open-box, customer-return, untested and partially faulty inventory can be described and reviewed. If support contracts, subscriptions or licenses are involved, list only what you can document and do not assume they transfer with the hardware.
Common selling situations
- Enterprise network refreshes
- Vendor migrations
- MSP or integrator project leftovers
- Distributor overstock
- Data center or office decommissions
- Returned or open-box networking hardware
What to put in a networking manifest
Manufacturer, exact part number, quantity, condition and whether key accessories are included are the core fields. Add power supplies, rails and modules when they can be identified. Serial numbers are usually not necessary for the first pricing conversation unless your internal process already includes them.

Prepare your inventory
Four details make new old stock inventory easier to evaluate.
A useful first submission does not need to be perfect. Start with the information you already have, then add the details that help identify the equipment and the lot.
Exact model or part number
Use the manufacturer label or SKU whenever possible. Specific models are more useful than broad descriptions such as “switch,” “server” or “laptop.”
Quantity by model
List the count for each model or configuration. If exact counts are not ready, a reasonable pallet, carton or lot estimate can still help start the review.
Condition & packaging
Note whether the inventory is factory sealed, open-box, used, returned, untested or incomplete. Mention damaged cartons or missing accessories when known.
Location & representative photos
Include the city/state and a few clear photos of the lot, model labels and packaging. This helps the purchasing team understand scale and logistics.
